Dr Abdullahi B. Ahmad
Dr Abdullahi Ahmad leads CAPS-WA’s work on accountable governance, democratic resilience, and civic space. His research on radicalisation and violent extremism—grounded in Northeast Nigeria—examines how political authority, economic exclusion, religion, culture, and identity interact, with a consistent focus on how governance choices shape security outcomes. He brings this lens to elections, decentralisation, legislative oversight, and citizen–state relations across West Africa.
He contributes to policy debates on counterterrorism, conflict resolution, and peacebuilding, and has trained security personnel, policymakers, and civil society groups on prevention and rights-respecting approaches. Professionally, he has served as an Assistant Lecturer at a Centre for Peace and Security and as Special Assistant (Research and Planning) to the current Nigerian Senate Chairman on Science, Technology, and Innovation.
Abdullahi has a PhD in Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Portsmouth. He holds an MA in Peace, Conflict and Development (University of Bradford) and a BA in Mass Communication (Baze University). He is fluent in English, Hausa, and Fulfulde.
