We are redefining and working for Sustainable Security in West Africa
↓
The Big Picture
The need for alternative security approaches is more urgent than ever. West Africa is at a critical juncture, facing the dual pressures of internal conflicts and external interventions. The traditional conflict resolution and peace building methods, often imported from other contexts, have not always effectively addressed the region’s unique challenges.
The Centre for Alternative Politics & Security, West Africa (CAPS-WA) seeks to change this by drawing on indigenous knowledge, historical experiences, and innovative thinking to develop solutions that are not only effective but also culturally relevant and sustainable.

How We Look and See
CAPS-WA is committed to bringing alternative, sustainable, and forgotten perspectives on security thinking and practice in West Africa. Here is how we look and see conflict and the search for sustainable security in West Africa:
Looking Clearly
All remote and proximate political enablers of insecurity are security issues, and all security issues are political issues.
Looking Again
Iterative rethink of insecurity in their latent socio-cultural, political-economic, and psycho-historical manifestations.
Looking Back
Re-membering past peace and security experiences and research are critical for long-lasting and sustainable security.
Looking Ahead
Presents more robust ways of securing today and the future.
